    Comments:

Compact, inexpensive (a handful of patches for a couple bucks) and it seems to work OK. The instructions didn't say which side to stick to the tube (answer: not the cellophane side) or that you were supposed to leave the cellophane on after application (so it doesn't stick to the tire). I found this out in "Bike Repair .. for Dummies". Also mine didn't include any sandpaper but it seems to work without it.

Bought this patch kit to outfit my under saddle wedge, had the opportunity (if you want to call it that) to use it after catching a screw yesterday. Followed the directions to the tee (I am an Engineering undergrad student) and the darn thing just didn't work. You're supposed to roughen up the area, use a vulcanization compound, then take a patch and press firmly. First off, the patches have two different sides and the instructions don't tell you which to put down on the tube...I tried both and neither worked. It says that an instant chemical reaction bonds the patch to the tube and it's ready for use immediately. I found that it stuck just barely, but then the patch would peel up even before air was put in. I tried five of my six patches and found that they just weren't going to work...so instead of being on my way, my friend drove home and came back to pick me up...definitely not a fun way to end an outing. Bottom line...if you pick up this kit, pick up two, they're cheap enough to do so. Use the extra kit as a practice kit to see if you can make it work before you throw it in your wedge and put faith in it. Maybe I screwed up all five of my patches, who knows...but I couldn't get the dumb thing to work.
