Additionally, bike brands often prohibit us from selling their product without an in-store transaction (no phone or web sales). Once that in-store transaction takes place, you can take the bike back to your country with you, or we can ship it right to your door. Buying a new bike from Mike's while traveling from abroad is easy!

California Sales Tax The state of California requires that we collect sales tax, which varies from 8.75% to 9.75%, based on county. However, if we ship your bike via any common carrier from our store to any point outside of California, you pay NO CALIFORNIA SALES TAX whatsoever.
Import Duties Your country's custom office also collects import duties and taxes on NEW items brought home with you. This amount varies based on your country. If you aren't sure of the policies, we recommend contacting your local customs office. We've heard from customers that one common way to avoid or reduce these duties is to ride your new bike while you're here visiting (great idea, right?). It's possible that you may then claim it as "used" when you clear customs.
Getting Your New Bike Home Your new bike will need some minor disassembly, and then will be packed in a cardboard bicycle box. For those who travel frequently with their bikes, a bike travel case is a wise investment. There is a fee to box a bike for shipping, but we waive this fee for new bike purchases over $1500. Most airlines will accept boxed bikes with an extra charge - please check with your carrier. Or, we can quote you a shipping rate and we will arrange to have your new bike delivered to your door. Please note that bikes shipped from our store to any point outside of California are exempt from sales tax, which often covers the cost of shipping. If you take the bike from our store, then bring it with you on the plane, sales tax still applies.
